DISCRIPTION:-
Biological name:- Strobilanthes crispa
Family :- Acanthaceae
Species :- S.Crispa
Common name :- Pokok pecah kaca or pokok pecah beling in
Malaysia and pecah beling,enyoh kilo,
Kecibeling or kejibeling in Indonesia.
Black face general.
Origin :- Madagascar
Feautures :- The black face general is a woody spreading
shrub that can easily reach more than a
meter in height in cultivation.The dark
green leaves of the black face general are
elliptical in shape and have an attractive,
glossy sheen.They are also rough to touch.
They occur in pairs that grow on direct
opposite sides of the stem.Rarely produces
flower.The buds are borne in leafy sheats and
the yellow flowers that emerge are said to be
able to reach up to 2cm in diameter.
CHEMICAL COMPOUND:-
S.Crispus dried leaves contain a high amount of total ash(21.6%) as a high result of a high amount of minerals including potassium(51%),calcium(24%),sodium(13%),iron and phosphorus(1%).High content of water-soluble vitamins(C,B1 & B2) contributed to the high antioxidant activity of the leaves.The leaves also contain moderate amount of other proximate composition as well as other compounds such as catechins,alkaloids,caffeine, and tannin contributing futher to the total antioxidation activity.
USAGE:-
-Consumption of the leafy extract daily as an herbal tea could contribute to the additional nutrients and antioxidants needed in the body to enchance the defense system,especially toward the incidence of degenerative diseases.
-The leaves are used traditionally for anticancer treatment and diabetes.
-Treatment for uterine fibroid and leukimia.
-In Indonesia,this plant has been used in treating snakebites,kidney stones,diabetes.
